The head of the internationally recognized government of Yemen, Moin Abdulmalik, arrived in Abu Dhabi on Sunday for a two-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates.

At the airport, Abdulmalik received UAE Minister of International Cooperation Reem Al Hashemi and other officials. The Prime Minister is scheduled to discuss with Emirati leaders the latest developments in the Yemeni file at various levels and levels.

"Yemen and the UAE are fighting the common destiny in confronting the Iranian project based on sectarianism and fueling conflicts in the Arab region," Abdulmalik said in a press statement, describing his visit as "historic" and the relationship between the two sides as "strategic."

He said Yemeni and UAE forces were fighting side by side in the "battle to defend Arabism in the face of Iranian ambitions."

The visit came amid reports in recent years of tensions in relations between the internationally recognized government of Yemen and the UAE, the largest member of the Saudi-led Arab alliance.

In February 2018, Yemeni Transport Minister Saleh al-Jubwani called for correcting the relationship with the UAE and accused it of "establishing regional and tribal armies to dismantle the country."

In May last year, a crisis broke out in relations between the Yemeni government and the United Arab Emirates over the island of Socotra. Abu Dhabi sent forces to the province to take control of its airport and harbor, in parallel with the presence of then Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed Ben Dagher and several members of his government. Saudi Arabia.

Yemeni sources told the Associated Press earlier this year that there were serious differences between Yemenis and others supported by the UAE in the southern province of Dali, which enabled the Ansar Allah and Houthis to strengthen their progress in the region.
