The German Foreign Ministry has launched an investigation after it learned that the head of its mission to the Palestinian Authority was "impressed" with many anti-Israeli tweets, Bild newspaper reported on Thursday.

Bild said diplomat Christian Klages showed on his Twitter account, which was verified, his admiration for many tweets, including one of the former leader of the "Ku Klux Klan" David Duke anti-Semitism, before removing these.

One of his tweets, "Top Hat," wrote a video about an attack on Israeli soldiers. Another admiration for Duke's derision of an alleged massacre committed by Jewish forces before the declaration of the State of Israel in 1948.

A foreign ministry spokesman told Bild newspaper the content of the tweets was "unacceptable". "We immediately launched an internal investigation to determine how such" hits "could occur.

The German Foreign Ministry said the head of the German delegation to the Palestinians, Christian Clegg, had reservations about the content of the tweets. The 64-year-old German diplomat has been the head of the German diplomatic mission in Ramallah since August 2018. Prior to that, he served as Special Commissioner for the Sahel African Group since 2015 and also since 2013 to 2015 Ambassador of Germany in Beirut.
