Two months after the launch of the "New Beginning in a Team" program, more than 22 people volunteered to work as guides and refugee assistants to participate in the program. The German Government's program aims to bring 500 refugees in need of protection, from countries where they can not live permanently, to Germany, in cooperation with mentors and assistants.

Speaking to the Evangelical News Agency (EDP), Edgar Born of the main coordinating office of the program confirmed that so far it is not clear when the refugees will be brought, hoping that "they will be able to reach Germany this year."

The idea of the program is to assist vulnerable refugees living in camps in Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Ethiopia to come to Germany and to be cared for by volunteers working in this program. According to the "New Beginning in a Team" program, a team of mentors will help find refugee accommodation and support refugees in the process of integration and completion of bureaucratic procedures.

500 refugees will be allowed to come to Germany

The new program will bring 500 refugees. The refugees who are admitted to this program are not required to apply for asylum but will be accepted as part of the "resettlement". Germany has already agreed to resettle 10,200 refugees in 2018 and 2019. Refugees who are particularly in need of protection are selected by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). Bertelsmann Foundation, Caritas and the Evangelical Church of North Rhine-Westphalia participated in the design of this program. It will be implemented with the support of the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees.

On the other hand, the number of permits for family reunification of persons with secondary protection reached the highest limit in the first half of this year. According to the German Foreign Ministry, the German Ministry of the Interior has given 5,860 approval for special family reunification for secondary protection from the beginning of January to June, equivalent to 976, which is very close to the number 1000, which was agreed upon and started to be implemented in August 2018.
