The right-wing "Alternative for Germany" party is the strongest in the eastern German state of Brandenburg, according to a recent survey. According to a poll conducted by Tsep Spiegel and Spiegel Online on Wednesday (July 17, 2019), if the local elections are held in the state on Sunday, the right-wing populist party To 21.3 percent of the vote.

The Social Democratic Party (SPD), a partner of the ruling coalition in Germany, will take second place and get 17.2 percent in Brandenburg, ahead of the opposition left party, with 16.9 percent of German citizens.

According to the poll, Merkel's Christian Democrats came in fourth with 16.3 percent, ahead of the Green Party, which won 15.1 percent of citizens' support and came in fifth. The Liberal Party, the Free Democratic Party (LDP), came in sixth with 5.2 percent, so it could not fully guarantee that it would join the local state parliament in Potsdam after the state's upcoming election on September 1.

The poll was conducted between June 19 and July 17, and included 2892 people.
